Great TV, great value

Reviewer: BluePlato,
The LG 50PS60 is my first flat panel TV purchase. I'm very happy with it. I don't use the THX Cinema setting, instead I've modified the standard setting to my liking - though black is not as black as when it is off. I can't seem to achieve that, but as a novice I'm not sure if that's a reasonable goal.

One small nit - sometimes I find the TV has changed itself from the standard setting to something else, like THX or Vivid. I think this happens if I toggle around too much in the TV menu, but I'm not sure what triggers this changing.

This TV has an auto-brightness feature that evaluates the room brightness and adjusts the picture accordingly. Lower brightness reduces power consumption on a plasma. This TV does have a more glossy screen than some other manufacturers. We watch TV in the evening, in a moderately dark room - but even with a lights on I can't say I've ever been aware of reflections in the screen. So for me, no biggie.

I'm driving this display with a DirecTV HD DVR and a Panasonic DVD recorder/player, both via HDMI. I'm surprised and pleased how good the DVD looks. BlueRay is on the wish list for now. DirecTV 1080i and 720p content looks great.

Yesterday my family viewed my daughter's jpg pictures of her trip to Greece on the 50PS60 via the USB jack and built-in picture viewing software. The pictures looked outstanding, and the large screen is perfect for group viewing. You can even add a music file to play while viewing pictures! All I need now is for the TV to serve chips and beer.

I bought my 50PS60 from Amazon partner OneCall, which shipped within 24 hours from Washington state. They had strapped it upright on a long pallet, with two shockwatch stickers attached. Perfect condition. OneCall is an authorized dealer so I was able to take advantage of the LG [...] on this unit, which made selecting this unit a no brainer.
Overall Excellent TV

I have now owned this TV for about a week. The delivery was three days earlier than expected, and took ~4 days to get from CA to PA. So far, this has been a great experience. The Picture Wizard allows for the optimization of the picture to one's personal standards. The picture is very contrasty and sharp once properly calibrated, and all of the content that I play on it looks very smooth. I primarily use it with my PS3, for gaming and watching BluRays. One thing that upsets me is the black bars present in most movies, but this is not the TV's fault.

Some people say to "break in" the TV for the first 100-200 hours, by watching everything at 50 contrast and brightness. I decided, in my constant search for instant gratification, to use the picture wizard settings right away. With games, this creates some slight image retention (not burn in) in areas such as HUDs and the like. However, image retention disappears very quickly with the white-wash option. I feel this TV is very IR-resistant.

Many people will not like the fact that the screen is not glare-resistant. It has not been a problem for me as the TV is in a dark basement, but for others that may want to place it in a bright living room, it could become an issue. Another problem: there is a fluorescent tube at the lower right of the TV that lights dark red when the TV is off. This shouldn't be a problem unless you sleep in the same room.

Overall, the style of the TV is very attractive. The picture always pops, and THX mode looks good when used in total darkness. Good luck with your TV search!
Best value Plasma for the feature

Pro:
Great price for the value
Sleek design 1 glass frame, the stand is all glossy
It has lots of setting for custom and calibration
It has intel sensor and energy saving option
One of best perform hdtv for sd material
Lowest price plasma support 1080 24p cinema
Pretty slim design
Great remote design
The stand is swivel
Good black level but not as deep as samung, panasonic or pionner

Cons
IR is higher than Panasonic, Samsung or Pionner (notice when you are 3 feet or less away)
Not idea for pc monitor since of ir issue.
1 sec Green bar apper sometime when you switch source (HDMI etc.. PS3, receiver)
THX mode not that great due to no adjustment of any kind allow, is way too bright
support 60hz 24p playback not 72 or 96hz of other higher end plasma
Support white background (dimmed) most plasma has this issue include pioneer

Over this is good price, but try not to paid over $1200, not the best plasma out there, but definite best price out there if you can manage to get that price i mention.

I bought this TV from sears a month back, and have no issues with it till date. picture quality is nice and so is the visual appearance. Didn't have glossy screen problems or burn in issues till now. But most importantly for me it was a great deal as I was able to buy this for ~$650.
BUT, certainly check the product before you pick up your package. The first one I ordered had a big crack on the screen, but ofcourse they took it back without any issues. Second one does not have any issues till now.
The deal is here now.

I was planning on waiting until black-friday to purchase a new set but, what can i say, the deal on this was too good to pass up. I've been doing homework for the past few weeks, first on plasma vs. lcd, and after deciding on that, on which plasma to buy. I was considering this, sammy 550 and panny s1. Deciding factors were the extra features this one had vs the others: THX mode, swivel stand, voice-enhanced audio, single-pane of glass. I decided that spending the extra-cash for ethernet connectivity was not something i wanted in my television but will look to either a blu-ray or media-pc for that.

I watch a lot of OTA tv and this tv surpasses with a fantastic tuner bringing in about 40 stations, many in 1080i or 720p. An excellent tv for the price.
Great purchase !!!!!!!

I read many reviews for Plasma's and LCD's. I ended up wondering why anyone buys LCD's larger than 45" or so. I was very impressed witn the Panny's such as the S1 and G10, but this LG ahs proven to be much more than adequate and cost 3 to 4 hundred less than I could find comparable Panny.

PROS: Great exterior design, best I've seen for this size plasma. Bright panel with good color, THX mode for movies, Sport setting for sports. Colors have a lot of "pop." I haven't done a close examination, but It appears that black levels don't meet the top-of-the-market levels for plasma, but clearly out performs even much more expensive LCD.

CONS: Huh. All I can think to say is if you spend much more money you might see relatively small increases in image quality. I don't think most people would find the differences noticable. Oh, the speakers are adequate but aren't going to impress anybody.
Great Plasma for its price

I recently made a cross country move from Ca to NY and didn't want to pack and ship my 2 Pioneer Kuros so i decided to just buy new TV when I got into town. I was about to spend another 4-6000 but after seeing this TV at a friends house I just couldn't do it anymore. I will admit there is a picture quality difference between my top of the line Pioneers and this entry level LG but for 80% of the consumers I doubt that they will notice a difference. The difference isn't in clarity its more in regards to color tone, and adjustability. One quick note I don't have this TV hooked up to a sat or cable signal so I'm reviewing it based solely on my experience with the TV with a Sony Blu Ray player and PS3 connected by HDMI. If you have a PS3 with a netflix account I would forgo the upgrade to the PS80 because its the same TV and all the functions that you would gain from that are available through the PS3. Also the fear of burn in is almost irrelevant anymore, my 9 yr old nephew was staying over for a few days and I asked him to turn the TV off as we were on the way out. He thought he was going to lose his place in the game so he paused it with the screen on. We got back 2 hours later and when I turned everything off (after showing him the save function) and on again there were noticeable signs of burn in but went away after he watched a ratatouille later.

Pro's;
-Great picture quality, no muddled picture here
-Easy menu navigation
-Great sound for what it is
-4 x HDMI connections
-Legacy connections if you have any older components you want to keep for some reason
-Easy to set up, it took me 10 min
-Pre set color modes
-Flat front glass, no step down from the bezel to the screen it cleans up the aesthetics

Con's;
-My number one gripe is that the blacks aren't as black as for example the Samsung 550. Its more like a dark dark dark gray and is kind of annoying to look at when you watching blu rays.
-Speakers, their good but go spend $300-500 for a simple 7.1 system
-Menu might be too simple for users that want more adjustments
-Remote, I bought a Logitech Universal remote after I dropped my remote the first day I got the tv and it stopped working.
-Preset color modes, I put them under pro's too but I wasn't a big fan of them use the adjustment program and tweak the colors yourself to get the best picture it takes 5 min and makes a huge difference.

Summary;

Great Plasma looking for the sub $1000 category if your looking for a 1080P plasma with great connection options and picture quality you can't go wrong with this unit. Find it online for $950-1200, many retailers were also offering free shipping so just do a little research for the best deal.
Good HDTV to have

When I bought this secondhand HDTV from Amazon wearhouse, I was kind of worried that maybe it will turn out to be the same bad experience like the one I went through with [...]. So I bought a guartantee from Safeguard

When it arrived finally, as scheduled, I started loving this TV, good quality in terms of both picture and sound, and I start to plug in my cable, my Blue-ray disc play, my computer and my USB flash drive.

Both TV and Blue-ray works perfectly, one tiny thing I'd like to mention is that the TV seems not to work quite well with Laptop, the quality is not quite good, though it works smoothly. the photos I saved in my USB disc, when i tried to display it on my TV, the quality is just very usual, not very good.

Good luck
LG is pretty sweet
